Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Jordan Henderson suffered a hamstring injury during Wednesday night's dramatic 2-1 victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Henderson limped off in the 71st minute of the match at Anfield, being replaced by James Milner as part of a triple change which also saw eventual match-winner Fabio Carvalho come on.
Klopp confirmed after the match that the decision to withdraw his skipper was not a tactical one, hinting that Henderson could now be set for a spell on the sidelines.
"Hendo is injured. He got a hamstring which is not helpful. It was that serious that he could not carry on. It was not a tactical change," Klopp told reporters.
Henderson will now undergo a scan to determine the severity of the problem ahead of Saturday's Merseyside derby against Everton.
The news adds to Liverpool's injury problems in midfield especially, with Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita also currently sidelined.
